Copts
Copts are an ethnoreligious group indigenous to Egypt, primarily adhering to the Coptic Orthodox Christian faith, which is one of the oldest branches of Christianity. The term "Copt" originates from the Greek word for Egypt and signifies a cultural and religious identity that dates back to early Christianity. Copts represent about 10% of Egypt's population and have a rich cultural heritage, including their own language, Coptic, which is derived from ancient Egyptian. Despite their historical significance, Copts have faced challenges, including discrimination and sectarian tension, particularly in a predominantly Muslim society.
