The Coptic Language

Coptic is the latest stage of the Egyptian language, evolving from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. It was spoken primarily by Christians in Egypt from around the 2nd century AD until about the 17th century. Coptic uses the Greek alphabet, with some additional characters from Demotic, another ancient Egyptian script. While it is no longer a living spoken language, Coptic is still used in religious contexts within the Coptic Orthodox Church. It serves as an important link to Egypt's rich cultural and religious heritage, preserving many texts and traditions from early Christianity and the history of Egypt.
