Coptic script

Coptic script is an alphabet used primarily to write the Coptic language, which is the latest stage of the ancient Egyptian language. It evolved from the Greek alphabet, adding some characters from the Egyptian demotic script to represent sounds unique to Egyptian. The script is written from left to right and combines Greek letters with a few additional signs. Historically, it was used by Egyptian Christians for religious texts and liturgy. Today, Coptic script is mainly used in religious contexts and by scholars studying Egyptian history and Christianity.
