Competing Values Framework
The Competing Values Framework is a way to understand different organizational cultures by looking at two key dimensions: whether the organization emphasizes flexibility or stability, and whether it prefers internal focus or external results. These dimensions create four types of cultures—clan (collaborative), adhocracy (innovative), market (competitive), and hierarchy (structured). Recognizing these helps organizations balance priorities, improve teamwork, and adapt to changing environments by understanding their core values and how they influence decision-making and behavior.
