Cloning in Agriculture
Cloning in agriculture involves creating genetically identical copies of plants or animals to ensure consistency in desirable traits. This process often uses techniques like tissue culture or somatic cell nuclear transfer. For plants, a small piece of the original can be grown into a new plant; for animals, cells from a donor can be used to produce a clone. Cloning is used to replicate high-yield crops or livestock with preferred characteristics, promoting food production efficiency and resource management while preserving specific genetic traits. However, it also raises ethical and ecological questions regarding biodiversity and health risks.
