Animal Cloning
Animal cloning is a scientific process that creates an exact genetic copy of an animal. It involves removing the nucleus, which contains the animal's DNA, from an egg cell and replacing it with the nucleus from the donor animal's somatic (body) cell. This egg then develops into an embryo and is implanted into a surrogate mother. If successful, the resulting animal is genetically identical to the donor. Cloning can be used for research, conservation, or livestock purposes, but it also raises ethical questions about individuality and animal welfare.
