reproductive cloning

Reproductive cloning is a scientific process used to create a genetically identical copy of an organism. This is typically done by taking the nucleus from a cell of the organism to be cloned and inserting it into an egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed. This egg cell is then stimulated to develop into an embryo, which can implant in a surrogate mother. The result is a new organism that shares the same genetic makeup as the original. This technique has been used in animals, most famously in the cloning of Dolly the sheep in 1996.
