Chromosomal Disorders

Chromosomal disorders occur when there are abnormalities in the number or structure of chromosomes, which are the structures in our cells that contain DNA. Normally, humans have 46 chromosomes, arranged in 23 pairs. Disorders can arise from extra chromosomes (like Down syndrome, which has an extra chromosome 21), missing chromosomes, or structural changes in chromosomes. These abnormalities can lead to various health issues, including developmental delays, physical disabilities, or increased risk for certain diseases. Chromosomal disorders can be inherited or occur spontaneously during cell division. Early diagnosis and interventions can help manage their effects.
