Chinese reunification

Chinese reunification refers to the goal of achieving political and territorial unity between mainland China and Taiwan. Since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, when the Nationalist government retreated to Taiwan, the two areas have been governed separately, with China (the People's Republic) asserting that Taiwan is part of its territory. Taiwan, on the other hand, functions as a self-governed entity and has its own government. The issue is politically sensitive, with varying perspectives on how and whether reunification should occur, reflecting complex historical, cultural, and national identity considerations.
