Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT) is a group of inherited disorders affecting the peripheral nerves, which connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. It leads to muscle weakness, difficulty walking, and loss of sensation in the feet and hands. Symptoms usually develop gradually and can vary in severity. CMT is caused by genetic mutations that affect nerve function. Though there is no cure, management options like physical therapy and orthotic devices can help improve mobility and quality of life. It's named after the doctors who first described it in the 19th century.
