Demyelinating neuropathy
Demyelinating neuropathy is a condition where the protective covering, called myelin, surrounding nerve fibers in the peripheral nervous system gets damaged or destroyed. Myelin is essential for efficient transmission of electrical signals from the brain and spinal cord to muscles and sensory organs. When it's damaged, nerves can't convey signals properly, leading to symptoms like weakness, numbness, tingling, or loss of coordination. This condition can result from autoimmune diseases, infections, or other underlying issues. Treatment focuses on addressing the cause and managing symptoms to improve nerve function and quality of life.
