Carolingian Dynasty

The Carolingian Dynasty was a powerful family that ruled much of Western Europe during the early Middle Ages, specifically from the 8th to the 10th centuries. Founded by Charles Martel, it reached its peak under Charlemagne, who expanded the empire and promoted education and culture, known as the Carolingian Renaissance. The dynasty was significant for uniting many territories and laying the groundwork for modern Europe. After Charlemagne's death, the empire was divided among his grandsons, leading to fragmentation and the eventual rise of new political entities. The Carolingians are considered key figures in European history.
