canaliths
Canaliths are tiny particles, usually made of calcium carbonate, that are found in the inner ear. They play a crucial role in our balance by helping the brain understand head movements. When these particles become dislodged from their usual position and move into the semicircular canals of the inner ear, they can cause dizziness and a false sense of spinning, a condition known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Treatment often involves specific maneuvers to reposition the canaliths back to their correct location, restoring normal balance and relieving symptoms.
