Byzantine text-type
The Byzantine text-type refers to a group of Greek manuscripts of the New Testament that originated from the Byzantine Empire, particularly from around the 4th century onward. This text-type tends to be more uniform and consistent compared to others, often influenced by the Eastern Orthodox Church. It became the foundation for the Textus Receptus, the version of the New Testament used by many Protestant reformers. While it is widely used, some scholars debate its accuracy compared to earlier manuscripts, which can have different readings. Essentially, the Byzantine text-type represents a significant tradition in the transmission of New Testament texts.
