Burkitt lymphoma
Burkitt lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that originates from B cells, a kind of white blood cell. It is characterized by rapid growth, often presenting as a tumor in the abdomen, jaw, or lymph nodes. While it can affect anyone, it is more common in children and people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS. This aggressive form of lymphoma can spread quickly, but with prompt treatment, which often includes chemotherapy, many patients can achieve remission. It was first identified in Africa, associated with the Epstein-Barr virus, but also occurs worldwide.
