Bone marrow failure syndromes
Bone marrow failure syndromes are a group of disorders where the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside bones that produces blood cells, does not function properly. This can lead to a shortage of red blood cells (causing anemia), white blood cells (increasing infection risk), and platelets (leading to easy bruising or bleeding). The causes can be genetic, autoimmune, or due to exposure to certain chemicals or radiation. Symptoms may include fatigue, frequent infections, and bleeding problems. Treatment varies depending on the specific syndrome and may include medications, blood transfusions, or bone marrow transplants.
