Bhivaji Rao

Bhivaji Rao, often known as Baji Rao II, was the last Peshwa (Prime Minister) of the Maratha Empire in India, serving from 1774 until 1802. His leadership marked a period of political decline for the Marathas, as internal strife and external pressures from the British East India Company increased. After losing the Second Anglo-Maratha War, he was deposed and later exiled by the British. His reign reflects the transitional phase of Indian history during the rise of British colonial power and the decline of traditional Indian states. Bhivaji Rao's legacy is intertwined with the history of the Maratha Empire and British expansion.
