Baji Rao II

Baji Rao II was the last Peshwa (prime minister) of the Maratha Empire in India, ruling from 1796 to 1818. He played a key role in the empire's history during a period of expansion and internal challenges. His leadership faced growing British influence and military conflicts, particularly with the British East India Company. Ultimately, his resistance waned, leading to the Maratha defeat in the Third Anglo-Maratha War, which resulted in the British taking control over much of India. Baji Rao II's reign marked the end of Maratha power as an independent force, paving the way for British dominance in India.
