Bahadur Shah Zafar
Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last Mughal emperor of India, reigning from 1837 to 1857. He became a symbol of resistance during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against British colonial rule. Although he had limited power and was largely a figurehead, his leadership during the uprising sparked significant nationalist sentiments. Following the rebellion's failure, the British deposed him, exiling him to Rangoon, Burma, where he died in 1862. Zafar's legacy is remembered for his poetry, particularly in Urdu, and his role in inspiring future movements for Indian independence.
