
Authority vs. Leadership
Authority and leadership are distinct concepts. Authority refers to the formal power given to an individual, often through position or title, enabling them to make decisions and enforce rules. Leadership, on the other hand, is about influence and inspiration; it relies on the ability to motivate others and gain their trust, regardless of formal power. While someone in authority may not be an effective leader, a true leader can inspire change and foster loyalty without official power. In essence, authority is positional, while leadership is relational. Both play important roles in guiding teams and organizations.
