Aung San

Aung San was a prominent Burmese nationalist leader and politician, best known for his role in Myanmar's (Burma's) struggle for independence from British colonial rule. Born in 1915, he founded the Burma Independence Army and later negotiated with the British for independence during World War II. Aung San became the country's first Minister of Defense but was assassinated in 1947, just months before Myanmar gained independence in 1948. He is revered as the "Father of Modern Myanmar," and his legacy continues to influence the country's politics and national identity, notably through his daughter, Aung San Suu Kyi.
