Aten
Aten is an ancient Egyptian sun deity, often associated with the sun disc itself. Prominently worshiped during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten in the 14th century BCE, Aten represented a move towards monotheism within Egyptian religion, focusing on worshiping a single god rather than the traditional pantheon of deities. Akhenaten established a new capital, Akhetaten (modern-day Amarna), to honor Aten, emphasizing its importance through art and culture. The worship of Aten, characterized by a more personal connection to the divine, faded after Akhenaten's death, and traditional polytheistic practices resumed in Egypt.
