Temple of Aten

The Temple of Aten was an ancient Egyptian temple built for the worship of Aten, the sun disk, during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten around 1350 BCE. Unlike traditional temples focused on gods with human forms, this temple emphasized the sun disk as a symbol of divine power, with open courtyards and high walls to face the sun. It represented a religious shift towards monotheism, emphasizing the direct connection between the pharaoh and the sun god. Located in what is now modern-day Amarna, the temple's architecture reflected a focus on sunlight and natural light as central to worship.
