ASCT (Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation)

Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation (ASCT) is a medical procedure used primarily to treat certain cancers, like lymphoma and myeloma. It involves collecting stem cells from a patient's own blood or bone marrow, usually after they have been given medication to stimulate stem cell production. The patient then undergoes high-dose chemotherapy or radiation to eliminate cancer cells, which can also damage healthy cells. Afterward, the previously collected stem cells are infused back into the patient to help restore the blood and immune system. This treatment aims to enhance recovery and improve the chances of long-term remission.
