High-dose chemotherapy
High-dose chemotherapy is an aggressive treatment that uses larger amounts of powerful cancer-fighting drugs to destroy cancer cells more effectively. Because such high doses also harm healthy cells, this approach often requires the patient to undergo stem cell transplantation, where healthy blood stem cells are collected beforehand and then reintroduced after treatment to help rebuild the immune system. This method is typically used for certain cancers, like lymphoma or leukemia, when standard doses haven't been effective. While it can increase the chance of eradicating the cancer, it also carries significant risks and side effects, so it’s carefully considered by medical professionals.
