Article 29 Working Party

The Article 29 Working Party was an independent advisory body that helped shape and oversee data protection laws in the European Union. Established under the EU Data Protection Directive, it consisted of representatives from each EU member state's data protection authority. The group provided guidance on interpreting privacy laws, offered recommendations for best practices, and ensured consistent application of data protection rules across Europe. After the adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018, its roles and responsibilities were taken over by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), which continues to uphold data privacy and protection standards across the EU.
