Data Protection Directive (DPD)
The Data Protection Directive (DPD) was a European Union law established in 1995 to safeguard individuals' personal information. It set out rules for how companies and organizations should collect, store, and use personal data, ensuring that individuals had rights over their information and that it was protected from misuse. The DPD aimed to harmonize data protection laws across EU member states, promoting privacy and data security. It was eventually replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018, which strengthened and updated data protection standards for a digital age.
