Archduke Karl (Karl of Austria)
Archduke Karl of Austria (1887-1922) was a notable figure in the early 20th century as a member of the Habsburg dynasty. He became the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, ruling briefly during World War I. Karl was recognized for his attempts at negotiating peace in a time of conflict. After the war, the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed, and he was exiled. He made two unsuccessful attempts to regain the throne before his death. Today, Karl is remembered for his dedication to peace and was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2004 for his moral leadership.
