Karl I of Austria

Karl I of Austria, also known as Karl I of Austria-Hungary, was the last emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, ruling from 1916 until its collapse in 1918 at the end of World War I. He tried to restore stability and seek peace during turbulent times but was unable to prevent the empire's dissolution, which led to the creation of several new nations. After his abdication, he was exiled and later canonized as a saint in the Catholic Church. His life represents an attempt to lead an empire through catastrophic war and change.
