Ancient Elam was a civilization located in what is now southwestern Iran, existing from around 3200 BCE to 500 BCE. It was known for its advanced culture, unique language, and significant contributions to early writing, art, and architecture. The Elamites interacted with neighboring cultures, including Mesopotamia, influencing and being influenced by them. Key sites included Susa, an important city that served as a political and cultural center. Elamite society was complex, with kingships, commerce, and religious practices, playing a crucial role in the history of the ancient Near East before being absorbed by the Persian Empire.
