Anchoring

Anchoring refers to the cognitive bias where individuals rely heavily on the first piece of information they receive when making decisions or judgments. In general knowledge, this can mean that if you hear a specific fact or figure initially, it will influence your thoughts and assessments about related facts, even if that first piece of information is not entirely accurate or relevant. For example, if someone hears that a country has a large population, they might overestimate its influence or significance in global affairs simply because that initial number shaped their perception.
