Alfred Wallace

Alfred Russel Wallace was a British naturalist and explorer who is best known for independently developing the theory of evolution by natural selection alongside Charles Darwin. In the mid-19th century, Wallace conducted research in the Amazon rainforest and later in the Malay Archipelago, where he studied various species and their habitats. His observations led him to conclude that species evolve over time through a process of adaptation to their environments. Wallace also contributed to fields like biogeography and ecology, highlighting the importance of environmental factors in the distribution of species. Today, he is regarded as a key figure in evolutionary biology.
