18th Amendment

The 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1919, established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages. It aimed to reduce crime and corruption associated with drinking by making it illegal to manufacture, sell, or transport alcohol. However, the amendment led to unintended consequences, including a rise in illegal bootlegging and organized crime. Due to these issues, the amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment in 1933, marking the first time a constitutional amendment was entirely overturned. Prohibition remains a significant topic in discussions about regulation and personal freedom in American history.
