Wycliffe Bible
The Wycliffe Bible refers to the first complete English translation of the Bible, completed by John Wycliffe and his followers in the late 14th century. Wycliffe believed that everyone should have access to the scriptures in their native language, challenging the dominance of Latin and the authority of the Catholic Church. His translation was significant in promoting English literacy and influencing later translations. Although it faced opposition and was condemned by church authorities, it laid the groundwork for future English Bible versions, ultimately contributing to the Protestant Reformation and shaping religious thought in England.
