White Revolution
The White Revolution, also known as Operation Flood, was a large-scale movement launched in India in 1970 to increase milk production. Led by the government's National Dairy Development Board and economist Verghese Kurien, the initiative aimed to make India self-sufficient in dairy, improve farmers’ incomes, and create a national milk grid. It transformed India from a milk-deficient country into one of the world's largest producers of milk and dairy products, promoting rural development and dairy cooperatives. This revolution significantly shaped India’s agricultural economy and consumer access to affordable dairy products.
