West Indies Federation
The West Indies Federation was a political union formed in 1958 that brought together several Caribbean nations, including islands such as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. Its aim was to promote economic cooperation, political unity, and social progress among member states. However, challenges such as differences in governance and regional interests led to its dissolution in 1962. Although it lasted only a few years, the federation was an important step towards regional cooperation in the Caribbean, influencing future collaborations like CARICOM, which continues to promote economic integration and political cooperation among Caribbean nations today.
