Velvet Revolution
The Velvet Revolution was a peaceful political movement in 1989 that led to the end of communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Citizens and activists organized nonviolent protests, demanding democracy, more freedoms, and an end to oppressive government control. The movement gained momentum without violence, resulting in the government stepping down and new, democratic leadership taking power. This transition was called "velvet" because it was smooth and without conflict, highlighting the power of peaceful resistance in achieving significant political change.
