Vela Supernova Remnant

The supernova-remnant">Vela Supernova Remnant is the expanding remains of a massive star that exploded as a supernova about 11,000 years ago. Located in our Milky Way galaxy, this remnant spans roughly 100 light-years across. It's mainly composed of gas and dust ejected during the explosion and is a site where new stars can form. The explosion released immense energy and created strong shockwaves, impacting the surrounding interstellar medium. The Vela region is also home to the Vela pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star, which is a remnant of the original star's core.
