Vela (constellation)

Vela is a constellation located in the southern sky, representing the sails of a ship from the ancient constellation Argo Navis. Its name means "sail" in Latin. Vela is part of a larger, now divided constellation and contains notable objects like the Vela Supernova Remnant, the remains of a massive star explosion. It also hosts bright stars such as Gamma Velorum. The region is rich in nebulae and stellar remnants, making it significant for astronomical research. Vela can be seen best from the southern Hemisphere and is part of the Milky Way’s dense star field.
