United Nations Trusteeship Council

The United Nations Trusteeship Council was established in 1945 to oversee the administration of territories that were not yet ready for self-governance. Its main goal was to promote the political, social, and economic advancement of these regions and to prepare them for independence. Initially, it focused on territories taken from defeated nations after World War II. However, as many of these territories gained independence, the Council diminished in relevance. In 1994, it officially suspended its operations, reflecting the successful transition of trust territories to self-governance. Today, it serves a symbolic role within the UN framework.
