Ulaanbaatar
Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, is its largest urban center and cultural hub. Located in the north-central part of the country, it sits at an altitude of about 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) and experiences extreme temperature variations. Founded in 1639 as a nomadic Buddhist center, it has evolved into a modern city blending traditional Mongolian culture with contemporary life. Ulaanbaatar is known for its vibrant markets, historical sites, and as the gateway to Mongolia’s vast landscapes. Today, it faces challenges related to urbanization, pollution, and economic development.
