Two-Factor Theory
Two-Factor Theory, developed by psychologist Frederick Herzberg, explains that employee satisfaction and dissatisfaction are driven by two separate factors. Motivators, such as achievement and recognition, influence how much people enjoy their work. Hygiene factors, like salary and working conditions, prevent dissatisfaction but don’t necessarily increase satisfaction. To improve morale, organizations should address hygiene issues to prevent problems and enhance motivators to boost motivation and engagement. Understanding this separation helps managers create a more satisfying work environment by focusing on both preventing dissatisfaction and promoting motivation.
