Turkish Language Reform
The Turkish Language Reform, initiated in the 1920s under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, aimed to modernize and simplify the Turkish language. Before the reform, Turkish was heavily influenced by Arabic and Persian, using complex scripts and vocabulary. The reform introduced a new Latin-based alphabet, making reading and writing more accessible. It also promoted the use of pure Turkish words instead of borrowed terms, enhancing national identity. This effort contributed to increased literacy rates and helped establish a cohesive national language, reflecting modern values and fostering a sense of unity among the Turkish people.
