Tidal Currents

Tidal currents are the horizontal movements of water caused by the rise and fall of tides in oceans and seas. As tides come in (flood tide), water flows toward the shore, and as tides go out (ebb tide), water flows back toward the open sea. These currents can be strong and are influenced by the moon's gravitational pull, the shape of the coastline, and the depth of the water. Tidal currents affect navigation, marine life, and coastal ecosystems, playing a vital role in the environmental balance of coastal regions.
