The Venerable Bede

The Venerable Bede (c. 673-735 AD) was an English monk, scholar, and historian, often regarded as the father of English history. He is best known for his work "Ecclesiastical History of the English People," which provides a detailed account of early English history and the spread of Christianity in Britain. Bede's writings include biblical commentary, hymns, and a remarkable understanding of time, including the concept of Anno Domini (AD). His scholarly contributions laid the foundation for historical writing in England and earned him the title of Doctor of the Church. He was canonized as a saint in 1899.
