The Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change)

The Transtheoretical Model, or Stages of Change, describes how people progress when modifying behavior. It consists of five stages: 1. **Precontemplation**: Not yet considering change. 2. **Contemplation**: Aware of the need for change but not ready to act. 3. **Preparation**: Planning to make a change soon. 4. **Action**: Actively making changes and trying new behaviors. 5. **Maintenance**: Sustaining the change over time to prevent relapse. This model emphasizes that change is a process, not a single event, and individuals may move back and forth between stages.
