The Hedonic Treadmill

The Hedonic Treadmill is a concept in psychology that suggests people quickly adapt to changes in their happiness levels, whether positive or negative. When we achieve something desirable, like a new job or a material possession, our happiness increases temporarily. However, over time, we return to our baseline happiness, often seeking more to feel the same joy. This cycle means that constant pursuit of pleasure or success doesn't lead to lasting happiness. Instead, we tend to reset to our original emotional state, leading to a continuous chase for satisfaction without long-term fulfillment.
