The European Citizens' Initiative

The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) is a tool that allows citizens of the European Union to propose changes to EU laws or policies. If at least one million people from a significant number of EU countries support a proposal, the European Commission is required to consider it. This process empowers citizens to engage directly with EU governance and influence decision-making on important issues, fostering democratic participation. ECIs cover various topics, from environmental policies to social rights, and aim to ensure that the voices of EU citizens are heard in the legislative process.
