The Dardanelles Campaign

The Dardanelles Campaign, also known as the Gallipoli Campaign, occurred during World War I from 1915 to 1916. The goal was to create a new front against the Ottoman Empire, secure a sea route to Russia, and capture the capital, Constantinople (now Istanbul). Allied forces, mainly British and ANZAC troops, launched an amphibious invasion but faced fierce resistance from Turkish defenders led by Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk). The campaign ultimately failed, resulting in heavy casualties and withdrawal of Allied troops, marking a significant setback for the Allies and national pride for Turkey.
