The Absinthe

Absinthe is a high-proof alcoholic beverage known for its green color and distinct anise flavor, often described as herbal and complex. It originated in Switzerland in the late 18th century and gained popularity in France among artists and writers. Traditionally, it is served diluted with water, which can cause a milky effect called "louching." Absinthe contains an essential oil called thujone, derived from the wormwood plant, which has led to myths about its psychoactive properties. Although banned in many countries in the early 20th century, absinthe has seen a revival and is now legally produced in various places.
